Privacy Policy

How Nairobi Flood Watch collects, uses, and protects information.

Overview

Nairobi Flood Watch ("the Site") is a free, read-only flood-information dashboard for Nairobi. It requires no account, login, or submission of any kind.

Information We Collect

We do not operate any account system and do not knowingly collect names, phone numbers, or emails through the Site itself. The Site uses Google Analytics to understand visit patterns — pages viewed, approximate city-level location, device type, and referral source. Google Analytics sets cookies (including _ga) that persist for up to two years and assign your browser a pseudonymous ID. We do not combine this with anything else to identify you personally. You can block this via your browser's cookie settings, a tracking blocker, or Google's own opt-out add-on.

Data We Publish

Flood, weather, and road-impact information is pulled automatically from third-party sources — the Kenya Meteorological Department, OpenWeatherMap, and Kenyan news RSS feeds — and is not independently verified before display. See the Disclaimer in our Terms of Service for how to interpret this.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade data collected through the Site. Aggregated analytics are visible to us only through Google's own dashboard, under Google's privacy practices.

Retention

News and field-report items are automatically deleted after 72 hours. We hold no other visitor data beyond what Google Analytics retains under its own policy.

Your Rights

If you're in Kenya, the Data Protection Act, 2019 gives you rights over personal data held about you. Since the Site collects no personally-identifying data directly, requests about Analytics data are best directed to Google; for anything else, contact us at the address below.

Children

The Site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the Site evolves.
